At the start of the day, this includes your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your selected Baseline Activity Level, giving you a foundational snapshot of your energy burn. It increases as you:<\/p><ul><li class=\"p1\">Log exercise in your Diary<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Log food (if the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.cronometer.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/33132110153492-Mobile-Energy-Expenditure#h_01JFB1CG41G6YCW3NDHNZMQYN1\">Thermic Effect of Food (TEF)<\/a> is toggled on)<\/li><li class=\"p1\">Sync with an activity tracker, which records your daily movements.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\">If you\u2019re synced with a device, your imported activity will replace the baseline activity to avoid overestimating your energy burn. It highlights either:<\/p><ul><li>How much you have left to consume to hit your goal.<\/li><li>How far over your target you are, keeping you on track.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"p1\"><b>Balance<\/b><\/p><p class=\"p1\">Prefer to focus on the bigger picture? Switch to Balance mode to see the straightforward energy equation: Expenditure &#8211; Consumed = Deficit or Surplus<\/p><p class=\"p1\">This mode tells you if you\u2019re in a deficit (burning more than you eat) or a surplus, regardless of any custom energy targets or weight goals you\u2019ve set.<\/p><p class=\"p1\">Use the toggles under Display Preference to switch between Target and Balance mode, or you can quickly toggle between the two by tapping on Target or Balance in the top right corner of your Energy Summary in your Diary.
