Born and raised in Southern California, Benita has had a passion for figure skating for as long as she can remember and worked hard to earn the designation of Gold Medalist in the US Figure Skating disciplines of Moves in the Field and Free Skating. She completed her Bachelors Degree in Physiological Science at UCLA and went on to pursue her professional skating career for the next 5 years. Benita was lucky enough to travel the world with Disney on Ice, and it was during this time that she realized her second passion, nutrition. After an extraordinary time on tour, Benita decided to go back to school and attended Georgia State University's Coordinated Program in Dietetics. As a former professional athlete, Benita understands the importance of proper nutrition to optimize performance and prevent injury. She also understands the pressures of aesthetic sports where disordered eating and eating disorders are all too common. Managing her own nutrition on tour inspired Benita to want to help others BE STRONG and successful as well. Benita is an advocate of "Health at Every Size," where the focus is on developing healthy behaviors instead of focusing on the number on the scale. She encourages that there are no "bad" foods and that all foods can be part of a healthy lifestyle! Benita's nutrition counseling sessions provide a judgement-free atmosphere where you can discuss, learn, and accelerate your own well-being through food and nutrition.
