  5. Yahoo’s OpenId authentication servers seem to have been pretty spotty the past day or two. It redirects back to the main page when their servers time-out. I will get better error reporting in there soon so it’s not so confusing…

  9. When I enter an exercise the only portion of the page that updates is the “remaining calories” bar. The energy, protein, carbs, fat, and nutritional bars do not update. Why is this?

  11. Exercise doesn’t change how many calories, protein, carbs, fat you have consumed, so those bars don’t change. The energy bar DOES color the portion you have burned a slightly different shade though, and your net calories are shown in brackets.

I agree with Masha, I would love to be able to add new exercises – I don’t run at exactly the speeds listed in the available activities, and I often use the elliptical trainer, which doesn’t seem to be listed at all. Love the new web-based design though – it is way better than the last version!

  14. I enter new foods with the correct number of grams per serving size. Yet when I go to use that food it has reverted back to 1 gram. Anyway to have the serving size remain as the default?

  15. Have you created custom Measure for the food? In the food editor, next to the serving size selector, there is a (+) button to add specific measures.

  16. I’m logged in, but don’t see “leave a reply” on most of the blog/forum posts I would like to comment on?

    1) REQUESTED FEATURE: For “red bars” (too much) to click on it and show what the top (5) food were that contributed to the total. And by the same token, on nutritiondata.self.com, you can find the top sources of a nutrient like K that you might be low in.
    2) I noticed the user input data for Trader joes almond butter w/flax is incorrect. Is there a way for other users to correct?

    2) Just email us with any mistakes you find and we’ll see to correcting them

    Did you really purchase the stand-alone version somewhere? We provide that version as a free open-source software, so I would be quite angry if someone were charging people for it.

  18. I have been using Cronometer (paid) for over two years, but before I became a faithful user I had tried many other programs over several years. None of them can hold a candle to this program. I recommend this to everyone interested in tracking their nutrients. Cronometer is an easy to use program that has so many of the features I’ve always felt a program like this should have and I love that it is constantly being improved upon. So basically, thank you staff of Cronometer for putting out this product and for always striving to make it better.

  19. I set it to show iodine but after i have eaten/added nori seaweed to the diary and scroll down to the iodine bar it dosent register that i have had iodine. Why is this? i know seaweed has lots of iodine so why isnt it working

  20. We don’t have data for Iodine in our database. That’s why iodine tracking is disabled by default and we warn you we have no data when you enable it.

  21. My daily energy requirement is 1859 kcal. Yesterday, I consumed 2201 kcal, which is 118% of my requirement. But in the General section of the nutrient analysis, it shows that I consumed 142% of my requirement.

  22. I wish to add my voice to those who want information about iodine. It is a necessary nutrient, and people who don’t eat much table salt, sea fish or seaweed will be deficient, if they don’t supplement.

    85% of the salt we consume is in packaged and restaurant food. That salt, which is purchased in bulk, used to be idized also, but now that’s rarely the case.

  23. Unfortunately, Iodine data isn’t provided by any of the major nutrient databases we subscribe to, other wise we would already be tracking it.

    Not sure what exactly you are asking? Elaborate and we will answer the best we can.

    I’ll take a stab at it though. We are all different and react and require different needs. There are no optimal numbers that cover everyone. Someone with X nutrients may be the picture of health and another person with the same numbers can be sick. It depends.

  25. love this app although I’m still a bit unclear about what things mean for example when things are RED in your nutrion summary what does this mean? my B3 is highlighted red, is it over target? Also, at the top of the nutrion summary it has a bar which shows the amount of protein, fat and carbs and at the end it has a number for example mine is “492.3kcal” in the caloric deficit part what does this mean? that I’m not eating enough calories I need 492.3 more to reach set target?

  26. The red is a negative caloric value or 0 value. You see it mainly with exercise, but will with supplements since they have 0 calories for most. Yes the protein/carbs/fat grows left to right as you consume calories and the total is in the left circle where the line starts. A deficit would be as you are seeing. On the bottom it is the opposite, grows right to left and a number there is an overage.

    I just signed up to Cronometer and I am trying to enter Vegan Safe Vitamin B12
    supplement facts
    Serving size 1 ml:
    B12 2500 mcg (80% from Methylcobalmin and 20% from Adenosylcobalimin) 41,666 % DV

    I went to Create Food then tried to find the B12 stated above. The only one is Colbolmin, so I entered 2500 ug in it says i have 104451%. I put 1g for serving size because 1ml is 1g…I think. Thank you for any help

    The DRI is 2.4 mcg so 104,167% is correct (2500/2.4). As for the servings, don’t worry about the serving size being the exact. Why? Most supplements don’t have a caloric value, so it is irrelevant from that aspect. You want to know you took 2500 mcg, right?

    Hope that makes sense, and 1ml of water = 1 gram of water, other substances are different but it is small for most practical applications.

    I am a newbie in personal nutrition, previously I’ve been using My Fitness Plan, but recently I’ve discovered Cronometer, and I’m planning to give it a go through.

    I know I should’ve scoured the forums, but my question is only, what are the main differences between the Gold & Normal app version.

    Anyways, the app looks fantastic. Can’t wait to try it.

  32. When the creator started cronometer many years ago, he was making it specifically for the CRON diet (Caloric Restriction with Optimal Nutrition).

  33. I just started using Cronometer after trying out a lot of other apps, and I am thrilled that I found it as I find it way better than any other system. Just one thing – would it be possible to get Vitamin K broken down into Vitamin K1 and K2 (MK4 and MK7) please?

    Thanks for the compliments and glad you like Cronometer. The data in Cronometer is for vitamin K, which is K1, K2, and K3. The databases out there don’t distinguish between them because the agencies doing food testing don’t test for the 3 different forms. Its all lumped into a vitamin K amount. Luckily, it is fairly easy to get all you need.

  35. Using iPhone 4s with IOS 9. In the past, the Cronometer “Rearange Entries” action worked. Now it appears to not be working.

  36. I use Cronometer on my iPad and love it. I put my weight at 155 but it changes it to 152.1. What should I do to correct it? Also, can I enter a target weight.?

    I went and looked and it is showing correctly. Your most current diary has a 155# entry and that is what is displayed on your weight graph and on your profile page. If you are looking at the graph for your weight goal on the profile page, I do see a 152.3 at the end of the graph line, but that is a projected weight for Mar 7. Not sure that is what you are referring too.

    You can set a target weight on the profile page in the weight goal box. You will see a blue weight number on the right of the graph. Click that to edit your target weight goal.

  38. My weight chart just went flat. I have used Chronometer for a over a year – maybe even 2 – and this has never happened before. It used to separate out the variations so you could see it in graph form. Now no matter the change the graph are dots in a row.
    Any fix (PS I bought the gold edition -6-8 months ago thinking this would give me more – but it hasn’t offered me much)

  39. Hi, i’m coming to the end of my subscription and I wanted to know if the lifetime membership is still available? it doesn’t come up as an option when on the free site but still does on the subscription site.

    To see iodine in your nutrient data, go to the profile page and check the “visible” box in the mineral tab lower on the page. To enter your data for iodine, you would have to add it as a new food for each item.

  43. Hi there,

    Ive recently started using cronometer and noticed a few things. When I add Fage, Greek Yogurt it does not add anything in terms of calcium. Fage greek yogurt has a lot of calcium as do almost all yogurts. In addition I tried to add spinach in and i didnt register any iron whereas spinach is full of iron. Not sure why this is happening but I am quite concerned now that the app doesnt capture nutrients appropriately. Is there something wrong with the app or something I could do better?

  44. Hi Nico. You can report missing or incorrect data in the app or to our support email. In general, there’s two types of data in the system — branded products only have data that’s on the label (and calcium is not a required item on nutrition labels, so the manufacturer may not provide it) and we have ‘common foods’ with comprehensive nutrition data that are usually generic / whole food listings. So if you search for a generic version it will have much better nutrient coverage than a specific brand label. More info here: https://cronometer.com/blog/6-tips-getting-nutrition-data/
