A Little More About Us
All the staff here at Cronometer love being able to help our users build a healthier life. Whether we can help you identify a nutrition deficiency or help manage a chronic condition, it’s a huge motivator for why we get out of bed every day.
While we love hearing your stories and getting to know our users, we thought we’d turn the tables and shine a light on what we think makes us special. Learn all about Cronometer’s DNA – our history, our values, our culture and more – below!
Our History
Cronometer was the brain child of our CEO, Aaron Davidson. Originally, he developed an open source desktop app in 2005 as a side project to create a solution to tracking his nutrition due to a lack of reasonable alternatives.
At the time, he was following the CRON diet (Calorie Restriction with Optimal Nutrition), hence the name Cronometer. It was several years later before he came to the conclusion that maybe he was onto something and quit his six-figure corporate job to focus on improving Cronometer.
The Headquarters
Our office is located in a small mountain town called Revelstoke in British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦. Revelstoke is home to a world-class ski resort and borders two beautiful national parks. Although it’s not exactly a breeze to get to, it has made a wonderful home for us to build the business.
We’re growing fast, currently with almost 40 employees, most of which live in Revelstoke. Our staff all take advantage of the lifestyle Revelstoke offers us by getting outdoors daily whether that be skiing, mountain biking, snowmobiling, hiking, mushroom picking or you-name-it.
Our Culture
We ended up in Revelstoke because our CEO, Aaron, was chasing a work life balance he hadn’t found working for other companies. A flexible schedule and the freedom to enjoy what life has to offer is something Cronometer employees enjoy to this day.
Each of the founders have put in their time working in toxic work environments in which there was a lack of respect and no personal time so they’ve worked hard to create a different environment.
The company is quite selective in their hiring process, preferring to employ Revelstoke residents or those willing to relocate. But also are careful to select friendly and humble individuals. We’re a group of fun-loving, caring and (self-claimed) hilarious individuals that truly care about the app we’re helping to create!
Our Values
One of the core values which everyone at the company shares is that we don’t do anything that makes us feel slimy. This value is consistently brought up in conversations across departments and each of the founders share and live by this one.
This is the reason why we do not sell your data. We have a strong belief that your data belongs to you and you only and have left a lot of money on the table in order to respect this.
Another thing that gets us all out of bed every day is that we’re helping people. We want each of our users to be successful in their health journeys and want each of you to feel your best. This is why we’ve structured the app to give users access to so much information, free of charge. Many of us have personal stories of discovering dietary sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies or even just a couple pounds of weight loss and know what an impact it can make on your life. We love being able to help other people feel their best!
Another value that our founders all share is the drive to constantly be improving. We know we’re not perfect! But we are consistently working to improve existing features and introduce new functionality that will help our users. If you have an idea or suggestion on how we can improve the app, we’d love to hear it!
