Pro User Testimonial
The Q&A below is based on responses from a Cronometer Pro user at the Keto Hope Foundation. To share your own experience, please email us at sales@cronometer.com.
Can you tell us about your practice and who your typical clients are?
The Keto Hope Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families using ketogenic diet therapy for pediatric epilepsy. We focus on family support, improving access to care, reducing financial barriers, and providing high-quality educational resources.
As part of this mission, we created the MAD for Keto Kit Program, which provides essential kitchen tools, child-friendly materials, and practical education for families starting the Modified Atkins Diet (MAD) for epilepsy. MAD is a less restrictive form of ketogenic therapy that encourages higher fat intake and carbohydrate restriction while offering more flexibility with protein and calories. This makes it more sustainable, palatable, and manageable for busy families—especially those with medically complex children.
Pediatric epilepsy affects over half a million children in the United States, and approximately 30% have drug-resistant epilepsy requiring alternative therapies such as ketogenic diet therapy. Many families lack the financial resources or clinical support needed to begin diet therapy, which is why our work—and the support from Cronometer—is so vital.
What challenges do you face with your practice?
Families often struggle with:
- The high cost of specialized kitchen tools, appliances, and ingredients.
- Limited nutrition and cooking knowledge needed to implement ketogenic therapy.
- Lack of time to prepare restrictive, medically supervised meals.
- Caring for medically fragile children who require highly structured diets.
Importantly, health insurance rarely covers supplies such as cookbooks, high-fat staples, digital scales, nutrition educational materials or kitchen equipment that support safe and effective diet initiation.
This gap is the reason behind our MAD for Keto Kits, which help families, especially low-income families, access the necessary tools to start diet therapy with confidence.
Cronometer Pro is a crucial part of these kits, and the free accounts generously provided by Cronometer remove an enormous barrier for families who otherwise may not be able to afford advanced tracking tools that are necessary for success.
How did you find out about Cronometer Pro?
One of our founding members (Laura Dority) is a Registered Dietitian that used Cronometer Pro extensively in her clinical practice to analyze homemade blenderized formula recipes and oral diets. It provided accurate macronutrient and micronutrient assessments, allowing her to guide families with precision.
When she helped start the Keto Hope Foundation and develop the MAD for Keto Kit Program, Cronometer Pro was the obvious choice for a nutrition-tracking tool—especially given how essential macro accuracy is to ketogenic diet therapy.
What made you ultimately choose Cronometer Pro?
Cronometer Pro’s accuracy is exceptional. It allows tracking of:
- Macronutrients
- Micronutrients
- Custom recipes
- Repetitive meals (common in ketogenic therapies)
The platform is user-friendly and highly reliable, which is extremely important for caregivers managing a restrictive medical diet.
When did you start using Cronometer Pro in your practice?
We began using Cronometer Pro in 2022, when we officially launched our MAD for Keto Kit Program. The kits are designed to empower families with practical tools, promote competency, and reduce the overwhelm of medical diet initiation.
Cronometer Pro instantly became a key component of the program, and the donated accounts from Cronometer have made the platform accessible to families who otherwise would not have had the means to utilize it.
How has implementing Cronometer Pro impacted your practice?
Cronometer Pro has significantly improved families’ confidence and adherence to the diet. Many families identify Cronometer as one of the most valuable tools included in our MAD for Keto Kits. The ability to track intake accurately—especially fat, carbohydrate, and protein ratios—helps them feel supported and reassured.
What challenges do you face that Cronometer Pro helped solve?
Cronometer Pro:
- Eliminates guesswork for busy caregivers.
- Supports accuracy in therapeutic macro ratios.
- Helps identify both macro and micronutrient gaps.
- Increases caregiver competence and self-efficacy.
Because many families lack nutrition education or time to navigate complex dietary calculations, Cronometer Pro fills a critical gap and supports long-term adherence.
Has Cronometer Pro had an impact on client behaviour, success, or adherence?
Absolutely. Families consistently report that Cronometer Pro is:
- Easy to use
- Accurate
- Reassuring
- Confidence-boosting
- Essential for tracking meals and meeting macronutrient goals
These factors directly improve adherence to the ketogenic diet, especially during the early—and often most challenging—phase of diet initiation.
What are your favourite things about Cronometer Pro?
Its ability to track both macronutrients and micronutrients with precision, supported by a comprehensive food database. Additionally, the custom recipe builder—an essential tool for repetitive meal patterns typical of ketogenic therapy is a critical piece for our families.
